Advice for a Successful Camp Experience

Pre Camp Training for a Successful Camp Experience
Minimum of 25 miles per week with some hills included for 4 weeks prior to the session you are attending.

CAUTION: ->  Due to the number of runners who attend the camp (over 250 per week), and our busy schedule of workouts and classes, we are unable to accommodate individuals with acute dietary, social, and/or medical needs. Runners with preexisting illness or injuries that limit their training should not register or attend.-> UNDER-TRAINED RUNNERS attending camp generally have a less successful training experience and leave themselves open to possible injuries and acute “thunder thighs” throughout the week. Are there hills? Yes! We are located in the Green Mountains. So try to add some hilly runs to your weekly schedule leading up to camp. Swimming in the college pool is an option for runners who lack conditioning or who are recovering from an injury.
->  All runners will be interviewed at registration for running group assignments and should be bluntly honest about their pre-camp conditioning.

Medical Information

The camp has a full time physician and/or nurse on staff. However, in case hospitalization is necessary, each runner must be covered by his/her own health and accident insurance. Your signature on the registration form acknowledges that your child has had a physical within the last 12 months. Please complete the Medical form and bring it with you to camp. Runners who are allergic to bee stings must bring their own anti-venom kits on each run.  All runners must be mentally prepared to concentrate on the footing on the trails to avoid turned ankles. Any runners with preexisting medical conditions, such as asthma, high blood pressure, or runners who are taking medications must identify themselves at registration and then review their condition with the camp physician/nurse.

Campus Conduct Rules

LSC has very strict policies prohibiting drug and alcohol use on campus. Camp policy prohibits dorm room visitations by members of the opposite sex. Runners breaking these rules will automatically be expelled from camp.  No refunds will be given.  Parents will be informed of the dismissal and must come to pick up the offender. Curfew, visitation and quiet hours are strictly enforced.

"Lifers" (Two week campers)

A limited number of campers attend two sessions of the camp.  The great majority of them are experienced runners. “Lifers” are required to remain on campus between sessions. Meals are taken off campus under staff supervision.  No meals are served on campus from Saturday breakfast to Sunday dinner. An extra food allowance of about $50 is required.

Phone Calls
A phone will be available for staff and camper use in each suite of rooms on each dorm floor. Outside calls require a credit card or a collect call. Campers are encouraged to bring their own cell phones. They actually work in Lyndonville! Campers are reminded at orientation on Sunday to call home to give their parents their suite phone number. Sometimes campers forget or may not be in their rooms due to our busy schedule, especially during the first 24 hours. Please refrain from calling the camp administration telephone number for you child’s suite phone number. If there is an essential need, we will call you. Experience has taught us that if they don’t call, they have settled in and are enjoying themselves.
